Flying on Sails, Acrylic 10×10 – by Meg Krakowiak

Meg Krakowiak was born into an artistic family, exposing her to music, theatre and fine art throughout her life.

Meg treated her passion for creating and appreciating art as a hobby and pursued a career as a teacher followed by an MBA in marketing.  Upon leaving the corporate world, Meg pursued her dream to become a professional artist.  Predominately self-taught, Meg knew from the start that her passion was color.  Drawn to the handling of colors by the Impressionists, her art journey began studying Degas and his work with pastels.  Disliking the dust and framing restrictions of pastels, Meg developed a technique of criss-cross brush strokes and blending of acrylic paint to create a “pastel” feel to her work.  Meg draws her inspiration from memories of colorful images that catch her attention.  “My goal is to create imagery that helps the viewer not only learn to see all the colors that surrounds us but also appreciate the gift of original art”.  “Flying on Sails” was created to capture the energy and feeling of flight I experience when sailing.  The color was inspired by a cloudy calm morning on the bay.

Meg Krakowiak currently works in her studio located in her gallery in downtown Sarasota on historic Palm Avenue.
